Raw almonds can trigger stomach pain due to various reasons. Almonds are considered as an ideal source of vitamin E, protein, fiber and other nutrients. Even though a reaction is relatively harmless, it might be an indication of a food allergy.

Tree nuts including almonds are the usual cause of most food allergies. A mild case might include GI tract symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, nasal congestion and lightheadedness.

Nevertheless, this is the reason they are not sold as food. The sweet almonds that can be bought in stores or supermarkets do not produce cyanide.

If other symptoms are present such as shock, difficulty breathing or severe dizziness, a doctor should be consulted right away since these are indications of anaphylaxis which is a severe reaction.
