Morning nausea: What are the causes?

Morning nausea might occur upon waking up or wake one out of sleep with a feeling of unease in the stomach. Oftentimes, nausea can trigger vomiting but this is not always the case. There are various health conditions that includes morning nausea as one of the symptoms.

Nausea occurs involuntarily and an action that is controlled by the central nervous system. During the initial months of pregnancy, more than 50% of women experience morning nausea in the morning.

Since nausea is a common symptom of food poisoning, it can arise any time after contaminated food has been eaten, including during the morning hours.

Aside from missing periods, morning nausea is a common indication of pregnancy. This often occurs if the body releases more hormones during the initial few months after conception.

Concussion

Oftentimes, if an individual sustained a brain injury such as a concussion, morning nausea might be present. Another indication of the head injury is a headache that can also trigger nausea.

A concussion might also be present once the head is struck by a hard object. Oftentimes, a concussion might manifest after a sports injury or vehicular accident.

Food poisoning

It is important to note that salmonella has a direct effect on the intestinal tract. Since nausea is a common symptom of food poisoning, it can arise any time after contaminated food has been eaten, including during the morning hours.

Headaches

Headaches are prevalent among adults that range from minor to severe. An episode can come and go or even linger for a week or longer. It can occur without any link to an underlying ailment or might be due to an increase in temperature, high blood pressure, infection or other health conditions.

Chemotherapy and radiation therapy

Morning nausea often occurs if under radiation treatment or chemotherapy and likely to occur among women, those below the age of 50, constipated, motion sickness in the past, imbalance of bodily fluids, anxiety issues or kidney disease.

Nausea can arise 24 hours after chemotherapy or any time before 24 hours. Oftentimes, it might occur after 24 hours.

Can gallstones cause morning nausea?

If an individual has gallstones, morning nausea is one of the indications. The gallstones are small-sized formations that trigger discomfort and oftentimes obstruction in the bile ducts.
