Snapping hip syndrome is defined as a snap-like sensation on the external or front region of the hip while walking or running. It might manifest occasionally or occur all the time. In most cases, the individual feels a snapping sensation in the hip while running or walking.
Generally, the snapping sensation typically stems from tightness in either the iliopsoas muscle or in the tensor fascia lata muscle.
Management of snapping hip syndrome
Since this issue typically stems from some tight muscle and some loose muscles, the individual is given exercises to strengthen and stretch the thigh and hip muscles. The individual should consult a healthcare provider on the suitable exercises to perform.
Anti-inflammatory medications are prescribed by the doctor. If these drugs are taken, they must be taken as instructed.
If the hip area feels sore, apply an ice pack or cold compress covered with a towel or cloth several times throughout the day at 20-minute sessions until the discomfort settles.
Snapping hip syndrome can be prevented with proper stretching of the muscles which crosses the hip from the pelvic region to the thigh bone.
It is important to note that the signs from snapping hip syndrome can last for a long time. The exercises are beneficial in stretching and strengthening the muscles and tissues bordering the hip. In addition, it also lessens the amount of snapping and discomfort that it causes.
