Hockey is likely to cause wrist pain. When playing the sport, the players utilize their wrists extensively when striking the puck with their sticks. The force in a shot is produced when a player presses downwards on the hockey stick and abruptly throws it with the brush of the wrists. If this is done repeatedly in game or in practice, it can lead to wrist pain.
What are the causes of wrist pain?
Wrist pain might be an indication of arthritis, overuse, cysts, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, fracture or sprain. It is important to note that hockey players can worsen the condition such as sore wrist since most are likely to play despite the pain.
Overuse along with repeated stress are the usual causes for wrist pain among hockey players. Any movement of the hockey stick utilizes the wrists and arms. The repetitive movement results to inflammation around the joints or even stress fractures.
This form of arthritis develops in the joints that have been damaged from a fall or repeated movement. It is caused by deterioration of the cartilage on the bony ends with use. This is considered as another root of wrist pain in hockey.
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome is brought about by pressure on the median nerve that runs on the side of the wrist.
These are soft-tissue cysts that typically develop on the top part of the wrist
Tendonitis develops if the collagen fibers in the tendons are overly stressed. The tendons become painful and inflamed. If not given time to heal, inflammation persists and the tendons will stick to other surfaces and eventually degenerate.
