A driver in an officer-involved shooting was given first aid. The B.C.’s police watchdog are investigating a shooting incident that left a man seriously injured near Nelson.
Shooting ordeal
The shooting incident involved an officer from the RCMP’s Kootenay Boundary Regional detachment who was responding to a complaint about gunshots and men yelling in the unincorporated community of South Slocan.
After reaching the scene, the Mounties stopped a vehicle which led to some form of confrontation. When the officers approached, a female passenger exited the vehicle and the male driver remained in the vehicle. During the check of the vehicle, there was an interaction with the driver that resulted in the officer discharging his firearm.
The Mounties performed first aid on the driver before the arrival of the paramedics who transported him to a healthcare facility. The RCMP stated that the man sustained serious injuries and nobody else was hurt.
The police alerted the Independent Investigations Office which is expected to dispatch a team to the area.
