Electrocuted man given CPR by co-workers

The heartbeat of a man is restored due to the rapid action of his co-workers. According to the Ottawa paramedics, the man in his 50s was given a shock while working on an underground fuel pumping equipment.

The man went into cardiac arrest but his co-workers were able to turn the flow of events and bring him up to the surface. His co-workers promptly initiated CPR until the arrival of the firefighters and paramedics 2 minutes later to continue with the defibrillation.

Bystander action

According to the Ottawa paramedics, the resuscitation effort was a successful one and spontaneous circulation was restored. The timely actions of the co-workers of the man were vital during the incident.

An effective and successful resuscitation effort during out-of-hospital cardiac arrests greatly depends on the immediate action of the bystanders including the delivery of CPR and early defibrillation using the public access defibrillators. If these actions are not taken or delayed, the outcome of any similar incident would be different.

Being prepared

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a life-saving skill that can save a life. It is recommended to enroll in a first aid course to be prepared in case of emergencies.
